Today’s college students — and their parents — are caught in a bind. Research shows that, more than ever, a college degree is key to greater economic security and employment. Yet young grads face the burden of substantial college debt and a demanding job market that they aren’t prepared for. You can’t afford not to succeed in your job search, but you probably don’t know the rules or the tools needed to score in today’s job market.
This blog helps college students and recent grads land jobs much faster. It also can reassure parents that there are strategies their kids can use to search for jobs more effectively.
I’m the author of the book Graduate to a Great Job: Make Your College Degree Payoff in Today’s Market. This is based on more than 30 case studies of recent college grads who have landed successfully in today’s job market. This blog reports on many of the lessons learned from my ongoing research with those who are finding good jobs today.
Here’s what this blog will give you to create a successful job search:
- Hope that you will succeed in transitioning to your next adventure, and better understanding of the emotional issues involved in challenging post-college job searches. You are not crazy!

About Me
I continually study and speak about what it takes to be successful in finding good jobs for Millennials & Gen-Zs, as well as their Baby Boomer parents. I have a child who has graduated from college and one still in school, so I am personally living these issues. In the past, I have been on the research staff at Harvard Business School where I created content for an MBA career development course. I’m currently a research fellow at the MIT AgeLab. And I’ve published a study titled “Buddy Can You Spare a Job? The New Realities of the Job Market for Aging Baby Boomers.”
Most of my time is spent helping executives find solutions for their talent problems, what they call “closing the skills gap.” (I can help you sound really smart in your interviews because I know the issues employers really care about.) I’m also author of the book Lost Knowledge: Confronting the Threat of an Aging Workforce, and co-author of The Executive Guide to High-Impact Talent Management. So I bring an employer’s perspective to talent and job search issues.
Most of all, I want to help students, new grads and their parents find work that is engaging and financially sustainable in this crazy, fast-changing economy. I hope you will subscribe and share these posts with your friends and family.
